Designing my Farmhouse Chicken Coop plans was a fun quarantine project for me. When I set out to design our coop, I knew there were a lot of things I wanted to do differently than we had before. For starters, I wanted it to be cute!
As I said before in my previous post Building A Better Chicken Coop, we didn’t know what we were doing the first time around and ended up loosing a hen to a predator. I did a lot of research on chicken coop design and predator proofing this time around. These girls were going to be safe in their adorable Farmhouse style coop.
Safety, Comfort, & Style
Every aspect of this coop is designed with a purpose, from the location of the roosts, to the size of the vent holes, and the functionality of the chicken door. Safety & comfort made up the bones of this design and I wrapped it all in my favorite style. You can read about each of these in my post Our New Chicken Coop – The Fluffy Butt Hut.
Even though we’d been planning for almost 4 years to get chickens again, when the time finally arrived, it was smack in the beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine so building the coop became our family quarantine project. We had a blast! Everyone participated in one way or another including my unsuspecting brother who came to quarantine with us for a few weeks! Thanks Garlan!
The Plans
If you’re looking for a set of cute Farmhouse Chicken Coop plans, I’m sharing mine with you for free. I’ve even included a complete materials list. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
I’ve separated the design into 2 parts: the Hen House and the Chicken Run. I did this to make it easier for anyone who only wants one part of the design or another. Just combine them both to build the whole Chicken Coop.
Feel free to modify my design for yourself! I didn’t design this coop on a budget. I designed it exactly how I wanted it and then bought what we needed. The Hen House cost us about $500 in materials and the Chicken Run was about $350 in materials. You definitely could cut costs by making a few changes. For example, the hinges I bought were $8 each. You can get simple hinges for $6 a pair. It’s up to you.
Tools & Materials
We bought 100% of our materials at Home Depot. Check your local store for inventory. They also offer home delivery and in store pick up for supplies bought online or on their app.
I am not sponsored or compensated by Home Depot or Ryobi (although that would be totally awesome). I’m sharing with you where and what we used based solely off the idea of making it easier for you to replicate my design. In the tool’s lists, I’ve designated which specific tools we used. Use what you have or try one from our list. Home Depot also offers tool rental if you don’t want to purchase them. We really like the Ryobi brand of home tools. They’re cordless, work great, and they’re affordable!
I’d love to see what you build! Be sure to tag me with #rhondasues on social media!
