My name is Rhonda Sue, and I’m a Southern California born & bred native! I met and married my amazing husband, Mel, when we were young (18 & 21) and we’ve been married for 28 wild & crazy years! We have 3 energetic boys who keep us on our toes.
Our oldest son, Brock started us off as parents 23 years ago, and we were instantly thrust into the disability community as well. Being born with Spina Bifida & Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, Brock has never let anything stop him going out and doing whatever he sets his mind too!
Mel III, aka Lil Mel, is the “younger, big brother” – even though he’s our middle child, he has assumed the role of big brother for both his brothers. Watching him become an amazing, independent adult has been both rewarding and difficult. As my sister Mary says, “We worked ourselves out of a job,” by teaching our kids to be independent and think for themselves. Watching our adult children maneuver through life choices is a different experience then I imagined.
Our caboose is our 16-year-old son, William. He’s currently a junior in high school and isn’t very excited about the idea of growing up. He enjoys being a kid. His story is one that we thought may never come to fruition. If you don’t believe in miracles, you will after reading about him!
This blog has been a long time coming. For years, many of my friends have been urging me to write one, but it never felt like the right time for me until now. I love being creative and inspiring others to create, whether it’s painting, quilting, sculpting, baking, creating a party, or whatever! I’ve had a few blog ideas come and go, but nothing really felt like my voice until I combined my passion for creating with my love of baking and party planning.
I get my creative talents from both my parents. My dad was very artistic – he could paint and draw amazing works of art. My mom is very creative – she was always coming up with new, clever ways to decorate, and make fun things. Holidays were always the BEST at our house.
I was 8 years old when I went to my first craft class. It was at our local community center and we made Christmas Ornaments using wrapping paper, popsicle sticks, celophane, and ribbon. I still remember every detail of that ornament. I love the idea of taking ordinary objects and turning them into something special. From then on, I tagged along with my mom to every cooking, crafting, sewing, and painting class she took. I remember always being the only child in a class with a bunch of women. By the time I was 12, I was often asked by the women in the class to “do the eyes” on their painted crafts. I always thought it was funny they had more confidence in my painting abilities than their own.
As I got older, I continued taking every painting, sewing, cooking, and textile class I could. I’ve taught classes out of my home, at churches for womens’ groups and youth groups, and I was a certified Wilton Method Instructor at our local Michael’s. Now, I continue teaching classes on a regular basis locally and I love it! The most rewarding thing for me is watching someone who thinks they can’t make something, realize that they can!
I hope to inspire you with ideas to create a little fun with the joy of Design and the love of Sweet Treats!
Xoxo
